How to Focus on Self-Care During Changing Times

There’s more to wellness than just exercising and consuming healthy fare. Taking a thorough idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is essential for your overall wellness. We like to describe this as self-care. Here are a few of our favorite methods for practicing self-care.

Stay Connected

We may be following social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t connect with others! Set up a virtual coffee time or happy hour with your friends. Keep it cheerful and tell each other a good thing that happened to you lately. Think about plans for when you can see each other again and how comforting it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are more capable and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are made for!

Follow a Flexible Routine

Craft an agenda for your yourself but allow for some flexibility. For instance, wake up around the same time every morning and head to bed around the same time every evening. Write down your objectives for the day and slate out your work assignments, but set aside some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too rigid with your agenda that you pile on extra stress. Finding a balance between a program and leisure will help you have a more useful and satisfying day.

Practice Gratitude

Thankfulness is good for anyone. The more gratitude we afford to others during these times, the more joyful and tougher we become. Give others grace. One of our most treasured ways to offer gratitude is to reach out to a loved one and let them know how much you appreciate them. A handwritten note is also a welcome and enjoyable surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.

Get Outside

There is nothing better than spending time outdoors, taking in the fresh air. Take a walk with your dog every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and ask them how they’re managing. Hang out in the sun for for some time and try taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!

Find Joy

Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t savor meal time! Experiment with a new dish for dinner and make your meals an event. Turn up your favorite song, get the whole family in on the process, and have some fun with it!

A Self-Care Staycation

Your attitude affects your entire life and impacts your actions. And during these strange times, it’s even more important to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s take this opportunity to implement healthy routines and exit this quarantine healthier and happier!
